Day 7 * Friday 10/05 * Amsterdam Free day
~ After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, the entire day and night are free to spend as you wish.
If you're interested in history be sure to pay a visit to the Anne Frank House. Situated in the center of Amsterdam, it holds the hiding place where Anne Frank wrote her famous diary during World War II. The original version of the diary is on display as part of the permanent exhibition. This moving museum is one of the city's most popular attractions. Amsterdam is also home to some of the finest art galleries in the world. Make sure to see the Van Gogh Museum which houses the largest collection of paintings by Vincent Van Gogh, the Rembrandt house which was home to the famous Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn as well as the very popular Hermitage Museum with works by Picasso and Matisse.
When you’re hungry for lunch, why not try one of the area "fish stalls" which serve 'broodje haring'- a herring sandwich, before exploring the many neighborhoods of Amsterdam taking in the beauty of the 17th Century architecture.
Perhaps you'd like to make your next stop today one of the many traditional Dutch bars known as "bruine kroeg" or 'brown cafes' where you can enjoy the quintessential Amsterdam experience of downing a foaming pilsner. Rest assured you'll make a few friends when doing so as Amsterdam's residents are some of the friendliest in the world. Besides Amsterdam's most famous brews: Heineken, Amstel and Grolsch, be sure to try a few other local standouts: Tarwebok (strong type of Heineken), De Konik (a dark Belgium beer) or the very popular Columbus.
Another unique and not to be missed experience while in Amsterdam are the 'tasting rooms' or Proeflokalen. In the 17th and 18th centuries Amsterdam was the center of the European spice trade, and out of this grew a tradition of distilling 'medicinal' spirits, that developed into a full range of liqueurs. The Proeflokalen specialize in these alcohols, and they have a large range of traditional liqueurs that you will never have heard of. The most popular served is the 'jenever' or Dutch gin.
Every tourist has heard about the famed Red Light District prior to visiting Amsterdam. This evening if you are feeling adventurous why not take a peek at this famed district that not only offers a party atmosphere and limitless people watching, but also features beautiful architecture.

~ Today, we'll take an optional trip to the Heineken Brewery for a great tour and sampling. One of the cities' main breweries, the 135 year old building today houses a 21st century homage to one of the world's favorite brews. Heineken is one of the largest modern breweries and here you will see the making of the beer, learn about the history of the company and sample the product. This evening, join your fellow travelers as we celebrate our adventures with a very special farewell dinner in a magnificent historic building-In de Waag. The Amsterdam Waag which is a remnant of the former city walls in Amsterdam was constructed in 1488. This towering building was originally one of the city gates, the Sint Anthoniespoort. De Waag, or old weighing station, is now a fantastic restaurant where dinner is especially atmospheric because the interior is lit by hundreds of candles in chandeliers. The perfect farewell dinner to end your memorable stay in Amsterdam.
